Many people have a “gummy smile” which gives the appearance of short, square teeth.  Often times, this results in embarrassment and people put their hand over their mouth when the smile or talk.  A gummy smile can be corrected with a relatively simple procedure known as crown lengthening or a “gum lift”.  The end result is that more of the natural tooth is exposed creating a wider, more beautiful smile.

Functional Crown Lengthening

Functional crown lengthening can be used to save teeth that otherwise may need to be removed.  Sometimes when a tooth is badly broken at or near the gumline, crown lengthening is performed to allow and adequate amount of tooth to protrude through the gum so that a crown or “cap” can be placed.  This is a relatively simple procedure and only takes one visit.
